In the final development phase of BLAZEBLOCKER ICE FIREWALL TAPE™ and Wet n Stick® Joint Tape, Dura-Tape International completed testing and analysis in conjunction with working closely with VTEC Laboratories. VTEC Labs, a commercial research facility specializing in fire testing, flammability testing, and combustion toxicity, is listed by ASTM International as an accredited testing Laboratory and the former NYC MEA Registration # 91-88-L. The New York City Department of Building (DOB) stringent requirements mirror those of the International Building Code (IBC) as applicable. In many instances when a municipality is without its own written code, Building Code administrators often refer to the municipality construction building codes of either New York City or the City of Los Angeles due to range of atypical construction code detail and reference citing for support. In July 2009, Dura-Tape International requested clarification for Wet n Stick Technology products for use in major New York projects, such as schools and hospitals. Submitting application with ASTM C474, ASTM C475 and ASTM E119 testing documentation (IBC requirements in sections 703.2, 703.3 with tables 2506.2 and 2508.4) to the Office of Technical Certification and Research (OTCR); the OTCR ruled Blazeblocker ICE™ and Wet n Stick® meet the necessary criteria to be acceptable building materials (code pre-scribed products) in the State and City of New York. Given their unique properties and the change in standard construction methodology, the above certification supports the product use by both architects and inspectors.
